This product is a mixture of asafetida with ground cement, exactly as used in traditional Indian recipes.
It has a very special, "heavy" aroma that gives an equally special but not unpleasant taste when added as a spice to preparations of Indian and Asian cuisine.
Ferula assa-foetida (Ferula assa–foetida) it is the dried one resin which is secreted from the underground rhizome of Ferula. The species is inherent at the mountains of Afghanistan, and is mainly cultivated in India. The name asafetida comes from the Persian "aso" which means resin and the Latin "Foetida" and refers to the strong sulphurous smell of the plant. As indicates his name, has a heavy smell, but in cooked dishes, it adds a soft taste, which resembles the leeks.
It is used as a digestive, in food as a seasoning and in pickling.
It usually acts as a flavor enhancer and is used along with Turmeric (yellow root) and cumin, ingredients in Indian cuisine, particularly in lentils as well as many vegetable dishes.
